Sandy Skoglund

Before the days of the internet, we were lucky to be exposed to the few artists our teachers knew about (and had slides of). I’m not old, but I do remember the days before we were all attached to each other through wires and screens. I saw a few Sandy Skoglund slides and thought they were so magical, these colorful rooms filled with creepy plastic animals. I believe these are early works, feel free to check out her newer work.

  1. i used a skoglund slide in a lecture i did on site-specificity (i was GA-ing in art history), and the professor nearly fell out of her chair laughing.

i refuse to be browbeaten out of my love for those goddamn radioactive cats.

  2. My familiarity with these comes from the postcards I used to collect. I never really considered them as artworks in any other context. If I see one of these displayed in an art gallery, I will always think $2 post card and respect them a little bit less. (and these days my artistic energies are devoted to printing greeting cards, ha-ha)
