Seth Crawford

I saw these at the MICA MFA show earlier this year, and thought they were refreshingly and suprisingly funny. To be fair, there were funny artists coming out of the MICA MFA program when I was an undergrad there (that’s what we fancy “masters” call regular college… before bursting into tears thinking about our grad school experiences; gross, salty, debt-ridden tears). Still, it’s not often that an artist says no to painting stripes. I appreciate his ability to keep the mood light, from the recreation of a childhood sculpture (a hot dog. make your own inferences. I know I did) to cookie jar versions of the movie Face-Off, to a framed print-out of a url address belonging to a very different Seth Crawford. They probably called him the “enfant terrible” in group critiques and told him to move to Brooklyn immediately upon graduation.
