No Rules No Shame

Another stop-motion (photo based?) animation, this time by Blu and David Ellis. I know it looks long, but it’s actually played twice, so the running time is 5 minutes instead of 8. I liked it, which is a little surprise, because I’ve been getting really sick of all these melting-face-early-90s-graffiti reprisals. It’s all the same, and while attractive, is also shallow and uninspiring. One Barry McGee is enough, right? No? Okay. This video, however, takes the drawings to a new level, which is really quite nice. I don’t mind seeing these images move and change- it’s refreshing and kind of funny. Plus, I know that it’s all for the experience and not a novelty skateboard in the end. The best part is between 3:30 and 4:00, where it stops being hip and gets strange and a little grotesque.

This one is nice too. I love the size and enormous production.
