Larry Sultan

I just finished having a really wonderful conversation with artist, Carrie Minikel, at Link Soul in Oceanside, California (where I live. A surprisingly great space with surprisingly great work that has nothing to do with skateboarding, surfing or graffiti.) While speaking with her I was surprised to hear that Larry Sultan recently passed away, as well as disappointed that I had not heard sooner. Instantly I recalled the awesome photograph of his mother against the olive green wall. I’ve always loved that series. For some reason I thought she was wearing plaid in the shot, but I think my ageism clouded my memory and distorted it with some elderly stereotype.

Larry will be missed.

  1. Thanks for the good words.
    That was my mother also.
A great photo of my mom and dad.

Larry was one cool older brother who gave me my first guitar, and i would not be a professional musician without him.
